Privacy Policy

Your musical audio belongs to you. Learn how our client-side DSP architecture guarantees complete privacy with zero server-side audio recording.

1. Core Privacy Architecture: 100% Local Processing

At Guitar Tuner, your privacy is fundamentally protected by our technical design. All audio signals captured by your microphone — including musical notes, vocal pitches, instrument harmonics, and room acoustics — are processed strictly in real time inside your browser via the native HTML5 Web Audio API.

We do not record, serialize, stream, or upload any portion of your microphone audio data to remote servers or third-party storage. Once sound waves hit your microphone, the digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms (such as the YIN pitch tracker and autocorrelation engines) calculate frequencies in local RAM and immediately discard the raw waveform.

2. Microphone Permissions & Hardware Access

To tune an instrument or detect vocal frequencies, your browser will request permission to access your microphone via navigator.mediaDevices.getUserMedia. This access is:

  • Opt-In: Triggered exclusively when you click an interactive button such as "Start Tuner", "Pitch Detector", or "Vocal Range".
  • Transient: Active solely while you are using the specific tool. You can stop microphone listening at any moment with the "Stop Microphone" button.
  • User-Controlled: You can permanently grant, deny, or revoke microphone permissions at any time via your browser address bar settings.

3. Audio File Processing (BPM Detector)

When using tools like our BPM Finder to detect the tempo of a song by dragging and dropping an MP3 or WAV audio track, the file is decoded 100% locally on your device using client-side AudioContext.decodeAudioData(). The file is never transmitted across the network, preserving complete confidentiality for your unreleased mixes, demo tracks, and audio recordings.

4. Local Storage & Cookies

We do not use intrusive tracking cookies, third-party advertising cookies, or fingerprinting scripts. We utilize standard browser localStorage strictly to remember your personal interface preferences:

  • music_theme: Saves your preferred visual theme (Light or Dark mode).
  • site_lang: Remembers your selected language preference (English, Japanese, or Spanish).

You can clear your local storage at any time through your browser privacy settings.

5. Third-Party Services & Static Assets

Our website utilizes Google Fonts to deliver clean typography for musical notes and monospace frequency readouts. Google Fonts does not set cookies or collect private user audio.

6. Children’s Privacy

Our musical education tools and tuners are suitable for music learners and students of all ages. Because we do not collect any personal identifying information, names, email addresses, or audio recordings, our platform complies with global child privacy standards including COPPA and GDPR-K.
